Iris Arnon
Ceramic artist and mixed media painter
My designs explore form and surface. I hand build sculptural pieces with clay in an expressive style. I create figurative sculptures as well as vessels, all of which feel gestural and voluptuous. I work intuitively, responding to the form as it emerges. I have a passion for the material and the handbuilding process, often adding texture and purpose through the inclusion of seeds, sands, ceramic shards etc. I explore tensions and contrasts in my work – historic and modern, inner and outer, the visible and the hidden – elegant forms in balance with rough, rustic surfaces.
I am also a mixed media artist creating paintings on mylar, a translucent plastic film. These works are also expressive and gestural, and often figurative.
